A 12-year-old girl has approached the Delhi High Court seeking directions to Central and State Government to immediately start COVID-19 vaccination for children between the ages of 12-17 in the capital. The plea filed by the girl named Tia Gupta through advocate Abhinav Mukherjee also demands vaccination to be prioritised for parents having children up to 17 years of age.
The petition, listed before Delhi High Court Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh cited data from across the country while stating that from April 2021 to May 2021 the number of youngsters infected by COVID-19 has risen tremendously.

While stating that the vaccine policy of India against COVID-19 has failed to factor in children or parents of children who are a vulnerable section of society for vaccination against the deadly virus, the plea said: " There are also reports of many children left orphaned due to deaths of their parents."
