In what has become a cause of concern, 122 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel have tested positive for coronavirus within a span of two weeks in Delhi. The personnel belong to the 31st CRPF Battalion at Mayur Vihar Phase-3 facility in the capital. The facility has now been sealed entirely.

According to the reports, the primary source of infection in the battalion is suspected to be a nursing attendant, who joined duty on April 7 after a leave. The attendant was advised a 5-day quarantine against the 14-day quarantine advised by the Health Ministry.

CRPF suspects that although the 5-day quarantine of the attendant was extended by 5 more days, it was not enforced strictly, which may have resulted in the infected attendant coming in contact with other personnel in common facilities. The attendant tested positive for COVID-19 on April 21.

480 CRPF personnel have been tested so far. While 122 have tested positive out of 368, 112 test results are still awaited. COVID-19 positive CRPF personnel are being treated at a facility in Delhi’s Mandoli. The personnel who have tested negative are being observed during their quarantine period and will go through repeat testing as per protocols.
