Two suspects were arrested after a three-year-old toddler was allegedly kidnapped in Chennai and rescued at Nagpur Railway Station.
Both the suspects – G Shivkumar Noriya (22) and R Monu Karpidass (25) – were working as migrant labourers who hailed from Madhya Pradesh.
Chennai cops said 26-year-old Mitheelesh and his wife 25-year-old wife Meeradevi from Bihar were working in a company at the SIDCO Industrial Estate.
The couple was staying in a rented house in Pattaravakkam with their two sons aged five and three.
Cops said, “On Saturday, the couple returned home from work and found their youngest son missing. The couple used to lock the children inside the house and a neighbour, who had an alternative key used to feed and take care of them.”
Mitheelesh immediately lodged a complaint with Ambattur Estate Police Station in Chennai, after which three special teams were formed to track the toddler.
Cops learnt that the toddler was last seen with Noriya and Karpidass, who used to reside on the floor above the toddler’s.
A cop said the duo had taken the toddler to Central railway station in Chennai.
After scrutinising list of passengers and CCTV camera footage, it was learnt that the duo had boarded a train bound to Madhya Pradesh.
Immediately, the railway police was alerted and the toddler was rescued from Nagpur Railway Station.
Cops said the suspects had planned to sell the toddler to a family for ‘huge’ cash in return.
Cops said a possibility of a larger nexus of child trafficking would also be ascertained, if any.
