In a tragic incident, a 31-year-old army jawan, who was already battling lung cancer, committed suicide at a hospital on Tuesday after he tested positive for Coronavirus. The jawan committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at the premises of Army’s Base Hospital in Delhi.

The jawan, who hailed from Sangli district in Maharashtra, was posted as a signal man at Itarana Cantonment in Alwar district of Rajasthan. He was admitted to the hospital on May 5, after his COVID-19 test results had come out positive.

Deepak Purohit, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Delhi, told a daily that the police received the information about the incident at around 4 am at Naraina Police Station. When the police officials reached the hospital, the jawan was found hanging with a nylon rope from a tree behind the COVID-19 ward of the hospital. No suicide note was found near the spot. The jawan was last seen around 1 am on May 12 when he went to a washroom situated behind COVID-19 ward.

Police officials said that the jawan’s body has been shifted to the mortuary of the hospital and his family members in Alwar have been informed about the incident.
