The Central government, on Sunday, December 5, declared that 50% of the eligible Indians were fully vaccinated against the COVID-19.
COVID-19 vaccination drive in India, which is also known to be the world’s largest vaccination drive, was started on 16th January 2021 post first wave.
As per the latest data given by the Union Ministry of Health, 128 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to share this news. He wrote, “India’s vaccination drive crosses another important milestone. Important to keep this momentum to strengthen the fight against COVID-19. And yes, keep following all other COVID-19 related protocols including masking up and social distancing.”
Union Health Ministry in a press release mentioned that India’s COVID-19 vaccine coverage exceeded 1,27,93,09,669 (6 December, 10 am).
In the wake of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the Central government directed states to increase vaccination sites to vaccinate masses at the earliest.
