In a horrifying incident, a 51-year-old man Dhemaji district of Assam, has been arrested for trying to have sex with a 14-year-old girl’s dead body, which was pulled out from the grave by the man. The dead 14-year-old minor had died under mysterious circumstances on May 17 and was buried by her family. The accused, identified as Akan Saikia, was caught in the heinous act by some of the villagers on May 18.
Superintendent of Police, Dhananjay Ghanawat, said that the girl had died under mysterious circumstances on May 17 and was buried the same night by her family members near the Simen river, which flows close to the village.
On the afternoon of May 18, some fishermen saw Saikia trying to rape the dead body of the deceased girl. The people caught him and handed him over to the police.
“Saikia doesn’t appear to be mentally deranged but is a psychopath. He has a history of criminal records,” said SP Ghanawat. The accused has been married twice and in 2018, he was accused of domestic violence by one of his wives. He was convicted and was serving his sentence in the district’s jail but was soon released on parole in March-end following a Supreme Court order to decongest jails due to COVID-19 outbreak.
“Saikia appears to be promiscuous. Some people have alleged that he might have sexually harassed the minor that led her to commit suicide,” SP Ghanawat added.
The body, which was reburied by the villagers, was exhumed by the police and has been sent for post-mortem. Police have booked the accused under Sections 306 and 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for abetment of suicide and unnatural sex and also under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
