Dr Raman Gangakhedkar, Head of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology, ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research), on Monday said that 80 percent of people infected with COVID-19 may not show symptoms so they may not even know that they are suffering from Coronavirus.
Dr Gangakhedkar said that this is the main reason why people should follow social distancing and follow lockdown rules. Dr Gangakhedkar made the remarks during a regular media briefing.
Agreeing with Dr Gangakhedkar, Lav Agrawal (Joint Secretary, Health Ministry) also said that 80 out of 100 coronavirus patients show no or mild symptoms. Around 15% patients turn into severe cases and about 5% turn into critical cases. Agarwal also informed about during the briefing that India’s doubling rate has to 7.5 days from 3.4 days before the lockdown.
