Health Minister of Maharashtra Rajesh Tope on Friday announced that all malls and theatres would remain open in the state while at the same time all the political, religious gatherings and sports events would be banned. Tope also said that gyms and swimming polls will be closed.

However, invoking the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier in the evening announced that public places in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad would remain shut from midnight today. Thackeray had also declared the deadly Coronavirus as an ‘epidemic’ in the above five cities and said that malls, public swimming pools, gyms, and cinema halls in the same cities will remain closed until further notice.

The CM had also said that the mode of public transport such as railways and buses couldn’t be shut, as it would lead to inconvenience and urged all private sector companies to adapt ‘Work From Home’ wherever possible.
