Captain Nawshad Ataul Qayum (44), the Biman Bangladesh Airlines pilot, who suffered heart attack mid-air on August 27 leading to an emergency landing at Nagpur airport, died at city's Kingsway Hospital on Monday during treatment.
Qayum a heart attack while he was operating the Muscat-Dhaka BG 22 flight carrying 122 passengers. Qayum's co-pilot acted swiftly and made an emergency landing at Nagpur airport. After the flight landed Qayum, who had slipped into coma after the attack, was shifted to Kingsway hospital.
As per a report by the TOI, Qayum's body will be flown to Dhaka in a special aircraft on Tuesday. The report also mentioned that this was the first case of pilot incapacitation handled by Nagpur airport.
