Congress, on Monday night, announced its decision to field Dr Ravindra Bhoyar as its MLC candidate from Nagpur.

The move came on the same day when, in a sudden turn of political events, Bhoyar, who was a BJP Corporator at the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and a staunch RSS man, joined Congress in the presence of Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut, minister Sunil Kedar and city chief Vikas Thakre.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC), in a letter by General Secretary Mukul Wasnik, dated November 22, stated, "Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal for the candidature of Dr Ravindra Prabhakar Bhoyar as party candidate for the ensuing biennial election to the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) from Nagpur Local Authorities' Constituency."
