The prototype of isolation ward manufactured by the railways

The railways announced on Saturday that it has manufactured a prototype of isolation ward in non-AC train coaches to treat the patients infected by coronavirus. Once the best practices were finalised in next few days, each railway zone would be manufacturing a rake with 10 isolation wards every week, the national transporter added.

To modify the coaches, the middle berth is removed and the lower portion of the compartment is plugged by plywood. Partition is provided from the aisle side of the compartment and 220-volt electrical points have been installed in each compartment to plug medical equipment.

Each bathroom will have a hand shower, a bucket and a mug. The coaches will have the facilities of consultation rooms, medical stores, ICUs and pantry.

Northern Railway spokesperson Deepak Kumar said that the modified railways will serve hinterlands or other regions where the coaches are required.
