Congress Corporator and General Secretary of MPCC (Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee) Praful Gudadhe Patil has said that Nagpur Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari’s appeal to Maharashtra government to let Nagpur Municipal Corporation buy COVID-19 vaccines directly is nothing but a publicity stunt.
Speaking to Nation Next, the Congress leader said, “In any vaccination process sin India, Central Government is the one, which supplies vaccines to states and local bodies. The Centre has placed orders for vaccines and still not getting them as per the need. If the Centre can’t procure the vaccines, how can NMC do the same?”
He added, “If NMC knows the place where vaccines can be bought, it should tell about the same to Maharashtra Government. The state government will buy it and give them to NMC.”
For the uninitiated, a few days, Tiwari had informed that he has written a letter to Maharashtra Government to allow NMC to purchase COVID vaccines directly so as to enable the civic body to vaccinate maximum citizens before the thrid wave. Tiwari also appealed Nagpur corporators, MLAs, MLCs and MPs to come forward and give money from their development funds to buy vaccines.
