Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, said that the recently conducted District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir had strengthened the roots of democracy in the Union Territory.
Held for the first time after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, DDC elections, had helped people in exercising their right to vote, said Modi.
He said the same while virtually launching Ayushman Bharat scheme for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which would secure universal health coverage for the people of the valley.
“Even in freezing cold and COVID-19 being at its peak, voters waited for hours and elected their representatives. Forgetting the past is not easy but I’m proud to see that people of Jammu and Kashmir are ready for the future,” said Modi expressing his thoughts on DDC elections.
