Amid the festive season, the Pune airport in Maharashtra will remain closed for 14-days from this Saturday, October 15.
The Pune airport at Lohegaon is currently owned by the Indian Air Force.
According to the airport officials, the decision was taken after receiving a communication from the IAF.
The runway of the airport was deteriorating. According to officials, immediate resurfacing work had to be done on it to save it from further damage.
In this view, it was decided to suspend all the commercial flights from October 16 to October 29 operating from the Pune airport to finish the maintenance work at the earliest possible.
For the travellers, the announcement of the sudden closure of the airport came as shock as many had planned to travel amid festivities.
Meanwhile, a greenfield airport was inaugurated by the Centre in Sindhudurg on the same day the IAF made the announcement about the closure of the existing airport.
