Amravati Mayor Chetan Gawande, on Sunday, October 10, organised ‘Sanman Stree Shakti,’ on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party (Amravati district) and felicitated 300 Asha workers for their selfless service during the tough times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event was held at Amravati and the Asha workers stationed in the premises of the city were felicitated.
The main reason to conduct such an event amid Navaratri was to celebrate women and their admiration to protect the society, said Gawande.
In the very same event, Amravati MLC Pravin Pote, who was one of the guests, announced that if the BJP won the upcoming Amravati local body polls, they would increase the monthly payment of the Asha workers’ by ₹5,000.
The BJP, which is currently governing Amravati Municipal Corporation had already increased Asha workers’ pay by ₹1,000 in their annual budget (2021-22).
Speaking about the event, Mayor Chetan Gawande told Nation Next, “Wellbeing of our Asha workers is always one of my top concerns. During lockdown in March, they risked their own lives to save ours. No felicitation can do justice to what they have done for us. However, we conducted this program to pay our respects and gratitude towards them.”
MLC Ramdas Ambatkar, MLC Pravin Pote, Mayor Chetan Gawande, Deputy Mayor Kusum Sahu, elected BJP members at the AMC and other party workers were present at the event.
