The legendary cast of the iconic sitcom of the 90’s – F.R.I.E.N.D.S – reunited for a special episode on HBO after 17 years AND. IT. DIDN’T. COME. CHEAP!
The cast including Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry reunited for a special episode on Thursday at 12:32 pm on May 27 called ‘The One Where They Get Back Together.’
When the show was aired in the 90s, the entire cast was the highest-paid for any show at that time. As per a report in Variety, each cast of the show might have been paid approx. USD $2.5 million (₹18.2 crore) for the reunion episode.
However, if other reports in Hollywood Reporter and Deadline were to be believed, each actor of the show might have been paid around USD $3 million to USD $4 million (approx. over ₹29 crores)!
Earlier, the sitcom was available for viewing on Netflix but now it can be viewed on HBO Max, which paid $425 million (approx. ₹309 crore) for the show’s rights.
In 1996, The New York Times had reported that each member of the cast was getting USD $22,500 per episode (approx. ₹8 lakhs).
By the time season five came, the cast was reportedly getting paid almost $100,000 (approx. over ₹40 lakh) apart from the percentage of the profits made by the show.
And, by the end of the 10th season, all six actors were making $1 million per episode (approx. over ₹4 crores).
Jennifer Aniston, who remains one of the highest-paid female actors on television, got USD $2 million (approx. over ₹1.42 crore) per episode for her Apple TV series ‘Good Morning America.’
All the six members of the show earn 2% of the show’s syndication revenue, which means they make $20 million only from the re-runs of F.R.I.E.N.D.S!
