As per a report by UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), India is expected to record the highest number of births in the world since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic in March. In nine months, between March and December, around 2.1 crore babies are expected to be born in India.

As per UNICEF, an estimated 11.6 crore babies are expected to be born throughout the world amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from India, other countries with expected highest numbers of births are China (1.35 crore), Nigeria (64 lakhs), Pakistan (55 lakhs) and Indonesia (40 lakhs).
