In a progressive move towards women empowerment, female constables attached to the Nagpur Police, from today, will have an eight-hour shift per day instead of the 12-hour shift.
Nagpur Police Commissioner IPS Amitesh Kumar, on 28 August (Saturday), issued orders regarding the same.
The orders read that this policy would be executed on an experimental basis until further notice. CP Amitesh Kumar said that the woman constables have to give extra efforts in managing both, duty and family responsibilities.
This decision would help them to work effectively and give relief. “If the situation demands more workforce of woman constables, the concerned authority will have to take permission from respective DCPs to call them for work for additional four hours,” read the order.
However, orders regarding the night shift would remain the same. “Deputy Police Commissioners should overlook that the orders are executed effectively,” it concluded.
