Congress delegation led by Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, October 13, met President Ramnath Kovind and demanded the resignation of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, who is the father of Ashish Mishra- accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
The Congress delegation included- Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, MP A.K. Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also demanded an independent enquiry under sitting judges in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
According to Congress leaders, the enquiry could not take speed if Ajay Mishra remained a Union Minister.
They demanded that either he should be suspended till the enquiry or he should be asked to resign.
A couple of weeks ago, accused Ashish Mishra allegedly ran his jeep over a group of farmers, who were protesting against Centre’s farm laws.
The incident had happened in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. It resulted in the death of four farmers and a few were gravely injured. The probe in this matter is underway.
