Officials at Nagpur Central Jail to stay with prisoners as inmates in lockdown...

In a bid to combat the spread of COVID-19, the staff at Nagpur’s Central Jail would be staying inside as inmates along with prisoners. Nagpur’s jail is however not the fist jail to implement this; four jails in Mumbai and four in Pune have already adopted the strategy. As reported in TOI, Superintendent at Nagpur Central Jail Anup Kumar Kumre, other staff including female officials would stay inside the jail. Prisoners won’t be allowed to leave the jail unless an emergency or a medical situation arises. Only vegetable vendors would be allowed to enter the quarters.

Two quarantine spaces have also been created for the inmates. Sufficient ration has been provided for all prisoners and officials inside to avoid any sort of inconvenience. Two officials would stay out and take care of the families of the officials who are staying inside if needed.
