Tanaji Wanve, Leader of Opposition (Congress) and Corporator in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) accused Nagpur City Congress Chief Vikas Thakre of threatening him during Congress party’s Bharat Bandh rally in Nagpur on Monday (September 10, 2018). Wanve claimed that along with Thakre, he was also abused and threatened by Thakre’s men.
Speaking to Nation Next, Wanve said, “When the Congress party's Bharat Bandh rally reached Gokulpeth market, Thakre pushed me. He then told me, ‘Tu yaha se chala ja. Hamare morche mein aane ki zarurat nahi (You go away from here. You don’t need to come in our rally).’ I told him that I was invited by senior Congress leaders like Ashish Dua, Rajendra Mulak, Mukul Wasnik, etc., to be a part of the rally, to which he replied, ‘Tu chala ja warna tera kaand ho jayega aaj! (You go otherwise an untoward incident would happen). His men then abused me, flashed a knife and threatened to kill me. I immediately informed about the incident to Congress MLA Sunil Kedar and Congress leader Rajendra Mulak, who, fearing any untoward incident, requested me to leave the rally.”
He further said, “After I went back home and spoke to my family members, they suggested me to file a complaint against Thakre as this wasn’t the first time he’d harassed me. So, I filed a complaint against Thakre at Ambazari Police Station as a preventive measure. I also sent a copy to Nagpur Commissioner of Police Dr BK Upadhyay and informed my senior party leaders about the same. Also, let me tell you that Thakre behaves like this with many people but they don’t react as they are scared of Thakre.”
When Nation Next spoke to Ramdas Narekar, station diary writer, Ambazari Police Station, he said, “There’s no entry of the case in the station diary at our police station. Though, it’s quite possible that an application may have been sent to Commissioner of Police directly.” When Nation Next spoke to Dr BK Upadhyay, Nagpur Commisioner of Police, he denied of receving the copy of the complaint by Wanve.
Meanwhile, Vikas Thakre, while speaking to Nation Next completely refuted Wanve’s allegations and said that he would resign as Nagpur Congress Chief if found guilty.
