Nagpur Cyber Cell officials recently arrested a 28-year-old man from Nashik for posing as a Bajaj Finserv employee and duping people of Rs 1,54,897. The man has been identified as Prashant Shrikrishna Garmode.
As per the police, Garmode would call holders of Bajaj Finserv cards and would asked for the card details and OTP (One-Time Password) received on the mobile numbers on the pretext of renewing their card or linking it to their Aadhaar cards. The card details and the OTP were then used by Garmode to buy mobile phones from Flipkart. Three people from Nagpur were duped by Garmode in similar fashion. Following a complaint by one of the victims – Suhasini Meshram - at Yashodara Nagar Police Station, the cops started investigating the case and finally nabbed Garmode. Cyber Cell cops have also recovered three mobile phones, which had been sold by Garmode.
Nagpur Cyber Cell has registered a case and booked Prashant Garmode under sections 419 and 420 of the IPC and 66 (d) of the IT Act.
