Nagpur leaders attached to the National Students’ Union of India, on Saturday, carried out ‘Adhikar Rally’ against Nagpur Metro demanding 50% reservation for local youths in metro.
Agitators began their protest from Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University to Sita Buldi metro station in Nagpur.
According to Nagpur NSUI officials, they had earlier met the metro officers and demanded job reservations for local youths in Nagpur. They had said that if their demands were not met, NSUI would protest against it.
The protesters were stopped by Nagpur police, who had barricaded the area around the Sita Buldi metro station. However, this could not stop the agitators and they marched forward.
Police officers and the protesters in the rally clashed against each other, which resulted in detention of few NSUI office bearers, who were released within few hours.
NSUI workers warned Nagpur Metro of severe consequences if the demands were not met. Along with asking for job reservations, NSUI also demanded students’ pass once the colleges in Nagpur.
MLC Adv Abhijeet Wanjari and Leader of Opposition in Nagpur Municipal Corporation Tanaji Wanve were present in the protest.
