Neeraj Chopra after his win at Tokyo Olympics
India’s Neeraj Chopra won country's first gold medal at Tokyo Olympics on Saturday by emerging as the ultimate winner in men’s javelin throw event. Chopra threw 87.03, 87.58 and 76.79 on his first three throws and fouled on his fourth and fifth throws.
While Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch won silver win a throw of 86.67, Vitezslav Vesley, the other athlete from Czech Republic, won bronze with a best throw of 85.44.
Earlier in the day, India’s Bajrang Punia beat three-time Asian Champion – Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov – in the men’s wrestling freestyle 65kg division at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday to win a bronze medal. Punia defeated Niyazbekov 8-0 in a dominant performance to help India equal its best-ever tally at Olympics.
