An FIR has been lodged by Mumbai Police against a television journalist for alleged incorrect reporting, which might have led to the Bandra station chaos on Tuesday. The news reporter Rahul Kulkarni, who works with ABP Majha, has been booked under sections 505B, 269, 270, 188 and 117 of the IPC along with section 3 of Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.
In a recent news report, Kulkarni had asserted that special trains to ferry migrant labourers to their respective homes have been arranged by the government. Rahul claimed in the report that after a video conferencing meeting, every division has been given data and the special trains called Jana Sadharan will be run for this purpose.
On Tuesday morning (April 14), after PM Modi’s announcement of extension of lockdown till May 3, hundreds of migrant labourers gathered outside Bandra Railway Station in Mumbai and demanded to be taken home. Social distancing norms were violated as people refused to budge and go home. Mumbai Police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
