The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), on Thursday, reportedly banned the procedure of sonography and CT scan at Nagpurs’ Dande Hospital and Venus Hospital.
The Health Department of NMC ordered officials to seize equipment used in the above-mentioned procedures from both the hospitals.
Dande Hospital is situated at Ravi Nagar while Venus Hospital is located at Kamptee Road.
As per the NMC, both the hospitals were allegedly running their centres illegally.

Nation Next spoke to NMC’s Medical Health Officer Dr Chilkar, who headed the committee under which, the operation was carried out.
He said, “Action against Dande Hospital and Venus Hospital were taken under the PC-PNDT Act. Both the hospitals failed to renew the applications seeking permission to use sonography and CT scan machines. Their applications, which granted them the permission, had expired a month ago. Hence, we have asked them to get approval.”
He further stated that the machines used to carry out CT scans and sonography would be sealed till the time these hospitals don’t get the approval for using the machines.
“We have advised them to apply for the license at the PC-PNDT office. The hospitals will be free to use their machines after the license approval,” Chilkar opined.
Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994 is an Act of the Parliament of India. The Act provides for the prohibition of sex selection, before or after conception.
It regulates the use of pre-natal diagnostic techniques, like ultrasound and amniocentesis by allowing them their use only to detect few cases.
