As a backup option, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) through a communiqué has asked 12 private hospitals to keep itself ready in case the COVID-19 cases in the city witness a further spike. As the existing capacity at government hospital – GMC and IGGMC – is of 200 beds, the administration is planning to expand it to 5000 beds in case of contingency. All the 12 hospitals have a capacity of 100 beds each; also around 23 more hospitals with a capacity of 50-100 beds have been identified. Besides this, the NMC is also ensuring the expansion of quarantine facility to 7000 beds by making 1500 beds ready in its first stage.
