Dr Mukerji, who is an ex-army war veteran and a practicing pathologist, owns seven pathology labs in Nagpur and Gondia districts. The lab at Indora in Nagpur is his eighth lab. Dr Mukerji is a 4th generation army officer who was actively involved in counter insurgency operations in the North East and later on in the Kargil war.

To stop the COVID pandemic, mass vaccination and early diagnosis remain the most powerful weapons. Over the world, the gold standard diagnostic method for detecting coronavirus is the RT-PCR technique from an oral and nasopharyngeal swab. Considering the need of an early diagnosis of COVID, Dr Mukerji decided to start the molecular lab.
