A truck driver from Sambalpur district from Odisha Ashok Jadav became the single biggest violator of the Motor Vehicles Act after being fined Rs 86,500 for violating traffic rules.

Ashok was penalised for allowing an unauthorised person to drive (Rs 5,000), driving without a license (Rs 5,000), overloading with an excess of 18 tonnes (Rs 56,000), carrying over dimension projections (Rs 20,000) and general offence (Rs 500). The total fine went up to Rs 86,500 but after negotiating for hours with the traffic police, he managed to pay Rs 70,000.

In the first four days of the implementation of the amended act, Odisha had grossed the highest penalty in the country at Rs 88 lakh. A total of 4,080 challans have been issued for violating traffic in the state.
