Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while virtually addressing farmers from six different states on the occasion of 96th birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on Friday, released instalments of around Rs 18,000 crores under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme to more than nine crore beneficiary farmer families.
“Today, Rs 18,000 crore have been deposited directly in the bank account of more than 9 crore farmers’ families of the country in one click. Ever since this scheme started, more than Rs 1,10,000 crore have reached to the account of farmers,” PM Modi said.
Further, he attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by saying that her government did not accept the Centre’s funds allotted for farmers. Modi also said that her ideology had destroyed West Bengal.
“I regret that more than 70 lakh farmers, my brothers and sisters from West Bengal have not been able to get this benefit. More than 23 lakh farmers of Bengal have applied online to take advantage of this scheme. However, the state government had stopped the verification process long ago,” he said.
“Mamata Banerjee’s ideology has destroyed Bengal. Her actions against the farmers have hurt me a lot. Why is the Opposition quiet on this matter?” he asked.
Moreover, addressing the ongoing farmer’s protest, PM Modi clarified that government was ready for talks with those who had any queries regarding the three new farm laws.
“I hope, now protesting farmers will speak to the government,” Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
