Well-known Bhajan singer Narendra Chanchal passed away at the age of 80, on Friday. He breathed his last today at 12:15 pm at Delhi’s Apollo Hospital.
Chanchal was admitted in the hospital on November 27. He had fallen ill for the past three months and had been undergoing treatment.
Expressing his grief over Chanchal’s demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “I am extremely saddened after hearing the news of demise of popular Bhajan singer Narendra Chanchal ji. He made a mark in the world of singing hymns with his vibrant voice. My condolences to his family and fans in this hour of mourning,” the tweet read in Hindi.
Apart of being popular for his religious songs and bhajans, Chanchal’s songs like ‘Chalo Bulava Aaya Hai’ from Avtaar and ‘Beshak Mandir Masjid Todo’ from Bobby became immensely popular.
He had also won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Singer for Bobby.
