Shiv Sena Mumbai MLA Pratap Sarnaik at the Maharashtra Legislature winter session 2016 during a media briefing on Thursday, spoke about the issue of Thane Municipal Corporation officials buying lands from farmers with the old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.

Sarnaik said, "Ever since the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the scheme of demonetization, a lot of black money has started to come out in the open.  Unfortunately, post that, some government officials from Thane are buying lands situated along the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi corridor from farmers with the help of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes. These officials also include the Additional Commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation Sunil Chauhan. We have a document (7/12) from the land registrar which clearly mentions his name. In the house today, we have requested Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis that strict action should be taken against these officials and that they should be sacked. An enquiry should be launched and they should be sent to jail. These officials are ruining the scheme of demonetisation by the PM. The CM has accepted our request."

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a high-level investigation concerning these land deals.
