Congress cabinet minister Dr Nitin Raut slammed Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s comments on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi after the Sena leader said Gandhi used to visit underworld don Karim Lala in Mumbai. Congress leader Raut said the Congress unlike the BJP wouldn’t tolerate any such remarks against its party and the leaders.
Nitin Raut said, “Hum eent ka jawab patthar se dena jaante hain (We know how to give a befitting reply.)” Nitin Raut told ANI, “Indira Gandhi was our leader and idol. Sanjay Raut used to comment against BJP even when they were a part of the government but if he thinks we will keep listening to him like them (BJP), then we will not tolerate this.”
Sanjay had said that there was a time when underworld dons Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel and Sharad Shetty used to decide who would be Police Commissioner of Mumbai and who would sit in the Mantralaya. We've seen that underworld, now it's just ‘chillar.’ However, he said if his statements had hurt Gandhi’s image or anybody’s feelings, he’s ready to take back his remarks.
The adopted son of underworld don Haji Mastan Sundar Shekhar backed Sanjay Raut by saying, “Sanjay Raut is right. Indira Gandhi used to meet Karim Lala like several other leaders, as Haji Mastan was a businessman. Even Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray was my father’s good friend."
