Taliban co-founder and the current Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, was featured in Time magazines’ list of 100 most influential people in 2021.
Time magazine released its list of 100 most influential people in 2021 on Wednesday. It is a global list of leaders that included US President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Duke and Duchess of Sussex Prince Harry and Meghan, and former US President Donald Trump.
Bardar was listed under the same category as US President Joe Biden and other world leaders and was called "charismatic military leader" and a "deeply pious figure" by Time magazine.
Bardar, who is currently one of the most powerful commanders of the Taliban, rose to fame after the Taliban forcefully took over Afghanistan. Reportedly, Bardar was the main leader, who oversaw the transfer of power from the Afghanistan government to the Taliban.
"When the Taliban swept to victory in August in Afghanistan, it was on the terms Baradar negotiated. He was said to be making all the major decisions, including the amnesty offered to members of the former regime, the lack of bloodshed when the Taliban entered Kabul and the regime’s contacts and visits with neighbouring states, especially China and Pakistan," wrote the Time magazine about Bardar.
