In a proud moment for 130-crore-Indians, Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won Silver medal in women’s Weightlifting 49-kg category today, at Tokyo Olympics.
With Chanu’s victory, India bagged its first medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Chanu lifted 87 kg in the snatch round and 115 kg in the clean and jerk round thereby lifting a combined weight of 202 kg successfully.
China's Zhihu lifted 94 kg in snatch round and 116 kg in clean and jerk round (combined weight of 210 kg) to win the Gold medal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his happiness on Twitter and wrote, “Could not have asked for a happier start to @Tokyo2020! India is elated by @mirabai_chanu’s stupendous performance. Congratulations to her for winning the Silver medal in weightlifting. Her success motivates every Indian.”
President Ramnath Kovind too congratulated Chanu on Twitter and wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to Mirabai Chanu for starting the medal tally for India in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by winning silver medal in weightlifting.”
